1. Overview
WeedSnap ("we", "our", or "us") is a mobile application that uses artificial intelligence to help users identify weeds from photos. This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and the choices you have regarding your data.
By using WeedSnap you agree to the practices described in this policy. If you do not agree, please discontinue use of the app.
2. Information We Collect
We collect only the minimum information necessary to provide the service:
- Email address – collected when you create an account, used to identify your account and communicate with you.
- Photos – images you submit for weed identification. Photos are transmitted to our AI processing partner and are not stored on WeedSnap servers after processing.
- Scan history – the identification results (weed name, confidence score, treatment notes, etc.) from your scans. This is stored in your account so you can review past results.
- Subscription and purchase information – managed by RevenueCat. We receive only subscription status; full payment details are handled by the App Store or Google Play and are never transmitted to us.
- Usage data – basic, anonymised information such as app version and platform, used solely to maintain and improve the service.
3. How We Use Your Information
We use the information we collect exclusively to provide and improve the WeedSnap service:
- Authenticate your account and keep your scan history available across devices.
- Send photos to the Anthropic Claude AI API for weed identification and return results to you.
- Manage your subscription status through RevenueCat.
- Respond to support requests you send to us directly.
- Monitor for errors and improve app reliability.
We do not use your data for advertising, profiling, or any purpose unrelated to the weed identification service.
4. Third-Party Services
WeedSnap relies on the following third-party services to operate. Each service has its own privacy policy governing how it handles data.
Anthropic Claude AI API
Photos you submit are sent to Anthropic's API to perform weed identification. Images are processed in real time and are not retained on Anthropic's servers after the API response is returned, in accordance with Anthropic's data usage policies. For details, see anthropic.com/privacy.
Supabase
Your account credentials (email, hashed password) and scan history records are stored in a Supabase-hosted database. Supabase is SOC 2 compliant and encrypts data at rest and in transit. For details, see supabase.com/privacy.
RevenueCat
In-app subscription management is handled by RevenueCat. RevenueCat receives a pseudonymous user identifier and subscription event data; it does not receive your email address or scan data. For details, see revenuecat.com/privacy.
5. Photos and AI Processing
When you tap Scan Weed or upload a photo, that image is transmitted securely (HTTPS) to the Anthropic Claude AI API solely for the purpose of identifying the plant. Photos are not stored on WeedSnap's servers. Only the text result of the identification (weed name, confidence score, care instructions, etc.) is saved to your account history.
We encourage you not to photograph anything other than plants with this app, and to avoid capturing images that include identifiable people or sensitive locations.
6. Data Retention
Your account data (email and scan history) is retained for as long as your account is active. If you delete your account, all associated data is permanently removed from our systems within 30 days.
To request account deletion, email us at rander0611@gmail.com with the subject line "Delete My Account". We will process your request within 7 business days and confirm by email when complete.
7. Data Security
We take reasonable technical measures to protect your data:
- All data transmitted between the app and our services is encrypted using HTTPS/TLS.
- Passwords are never stored in plain text; Supabase stores only a salted hash.
- Access to the database is restricted to authenticated application services only.
No method of transmission over the internet is 100% secure. While we strive to protect your data, we cannot guarantee absolute security.
8. We Do Not Sell Your Data
The only data shared with third parties is what is strictly necessary to deliver the service (photos to the AI API, pseudonymous identifiers to RevenueCat), as described in Section 4.
9. Children's Privacy (COPPA)
WeedSnap is not directed at children under the age of 13 and we do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 13. If you are a parent or guardian and believe your child has provided personal information through WeedSnap, please contact us at rander0611@gmail.com and we will promptly delete that information.
10. Your Rights
Depending on your location you may have certain rights regarding your personal data, including the right to access, correct, or delete it. To exercise any of these rights, contact us at rander0611@gmail.com. We will respond within 30 days.
11. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will revise the effective date at the top of this page. If the changes are material, we will notify you via email or an in-app notice. Continued use of WeedSnap after changes are posted constitutes your acceptance of the updated policy.
